Women’s Health

Obstetrics is the key women’s health component that receives funding from the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation. Recently funds from the Foundation have been directed for the purchase of a Panda Infant Warmer and Resuscitation Unit as well as a birthing bed. Babies born with jaundice benefit from the phototherapy unit and to ensure healthy deliveries, a fetal monitor was sourced. PROGRAMS

The Canmore and Are Health Care Foundation supports and assists the Canmore General Hospital in fulfilling its’ needs that are not currently available through Alberta Health Services through the raising of funds and management of capital. In addition, we support programs such as you will see on the following pages. We wish to assist the Hospital and the very dedicated staff provide the best healthcare possible to all residents in it’s service area as well as visitors to our beautiful part of the world. Bicycle Garages

To encourage a healthy lifestyle and bicycle riding in our Community, the Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation purchased some bike garages to keep your bike safe and out of bad weather when parked. The bike garages are located at the main entrance to the Canmore General Hospital There is another bike garage at the employee entrance (They are beige in color and have a door at the end and can be locked – just in case you wonder what those big beige boxes are.) Community Care

Community Care or Home Care in the Bow Valley is part of the Rural West Area of the Calgary Zone of Integrated Home Care.  Our area covers Canmore, Banff, Lake Louise, Exshaw and Kananaskis , Lac Des Arcs, Deadmans Flats and Harvie Heights.  We have a team that consists of Registered and Licensed Practical Nurses, Occupational and Physiotherapists, Respiratory Therapists, Social Workers, Recreational Therapists, Volunteer Coordinators and Home Health Aides.  Our goal is to assist our clients to remain safely at home as long as possible, delivering care in their homes and in supportive living …

Music Therapy

The Hospital put in place a “Musical Therapy” program in 2011 and continues to support it. This program is designed to promote and develop cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and musical skills through the use of music. “Music therapy is the skillful use of music and musical elements by an accredited music therapist to promote, maintain, and restore mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health. Cancer Care

Thanks to the generous support of the community, the Bow Corridor Community Cancer Clinic was expanded to allow patients to be treated in Canmore, without driving to Calgary. This beautiful addition allows patients to view the mountains, enjoy natural light, with room for friends and family to sit with them during treatment. The community raised $500,000 which was matched by $500,000 from Mr Guy Turcotte of Silver Tip Golf Resort. The expansion was completed in early 2010, and we celebrated the opening in Sept 2010! Long Term Care – Golden Eagle View

The enhancement project, 'Feels Like Home,' will incorporate design and aesthetics with research-based recommendations for Dementia and Elder Care facilities. The vision of the project is to create an environment that 'feels like home' for our residents, and will enrich the quality of life of our residents today and for the next 30 years.  In its current state, the unit is very institutional in appearance and décor, and the goal of the project will be to incorporate research-based renovations; some examples of the changes include: updating the lighting …

Cardiac Care

The Canmore Hospital Cardiac testing clinic offers Cardiology and Internal medicine clinics 4-5 days each month. We have Dr. Peter Nichol and Dr. Sarah Weeks in Cardiology and Dr. Troy Pederson in Internal Medicine. Kelly Yurasek, our Clinical Exercise Specialist and Cardiac Sonographer, works at the hospital 2 days per week. We have been in operation since January 2007. In our clinics we offer diagnostic testing, including holter monitoring, ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, stress testing and echocardiography. Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies

Healthy Moms/Healthy Babies is a free public health program for pregnant women living on a low income. This program provides support during pregnancy and for six months after the baby arrives. HandiBus

The HandiBus is used by the hospital to connect seniors in the community through the adult day support program.  Each week the 16 seat, wheel chair accessible bus transports clients of the Adult Day Support Programs to events in Canmore and the surrounding area.  It is also used to take residents and family from Golden Eagle View on day trips.
