The Canmore and Area Health Care Foundation supports and assists the Canmore General Hospital in fulfilling its needs that are not currently available through Alberta Health Services. We do so through raising funds and managing capital. In addition, we support programs such as the ones you see on the following pages. We wish to assist the Canmore General Hospital and the very dedicated staff to provide the best health care possible to all residents of the hospital’s service areas as well as visitors to our beautiful part of the world.

Our equipment purchases and programs are initiated by request from the hospital. Along with the programs shown below, we support specific hospital departments, such as ER, Day Surgery, Physical Rehabilitation, Addictions and Mental Health, and many others.

Funds that you donate to a specific unit or program within the hospital will be used only for that area, according to your wishes. Please contact for details.

Hospital GardenS Program

The Hospital Gardens Program is one of many meaningful programs supported by the Foundation at the Canmore General Hospital. The program is entirely volunteer run and is appreciated by many in the community, including our patients. We bring the flowers, volunteers bring the green thumbs.

Opening Minds through Art (OMA) is a newly funded Foundation program, specifically for long-term care residents. OMA is an award-winning, evidence-based, intergenerational art-making program for people with Alzheimer’s disease. This is a new program at Canmore General Hospital.

The Foundation proudly funds the P.A.R.T.Y. Program, which raises youth awareness about alcohol- and risk-related trauma. This educational program shows how most injuries are preventable. Youth see the path a trauma patient takes in hospital, into surgery and rehab and maybe into recovery.

Music Therapy

Since 2011, music therapy programs have helped to promote, maintain and restore mental, emotional and spiritual health. Relationships that participants experience here provide opportunities for interaction, self-expression and personal development.

Mindfulness Programs

Every spring and fall since 2009, the Foundation has funded 8-week mindfulness programs for local residents. The program provides an introduction to yoga and meditation to help improve overall quality of life for participants.

Cancer Support

This Canmore-based initiative for cancer care developed and implemented programs such as music therapy, art therapy, yoga classes and meditation sessions to help engage patients within their vibrant local community and at the hospital.
